In case you haven't already heard… the Eighth District Convention WILL TAKE PLACE AS SCHEDULED on Saturday, May 30th at the Waterford in Springfield!
Rather than hold a full convention, the Eighth District Committee has voted to hold an “unassembled convention.” As such, delegates will be asked to arrive at specific times and stay in their cars while they wait to vote; there will be no campaigning or other party events that day.
Voting will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You will be assigned a voting hour depending on your LAST NAME. DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY!
All delegates must enter the property at the intersection of Commerce Avenue and Bowie Lane (see above map for reference). Delegates will then need to drive into the appropriate line for their jurisdiction: LEFT for Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church; RIGHT for Fairfax County. YOU MUST USE THE CORRECT LANE IN ORDER TO VOTE.
You will also need to show proof of identification, such as a valid driver’s license, in order to receive a ballot.
The Committee asks that you consider bringing a clipboard or similar item with a hard surface with you so you can fill out your paper ballot in your car. This will also make the vote counting process easier for the tellers.
When marking your ballot, please use either a ✓ or ×. Please also vote ONLY for the number of people allowed for each office. Overvoting will result in your ballot being disqualified for that race.
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Last names A through H
10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Last names I through P
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Last names Q through Z
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Anyone who was unable to make it during their voting block
**The Committee will not turn any registered delegate away who arrives to vote outside of their recommended time; however, using these dedicated times will allow the process to run more smoothly.**
The Committee will also accept ballots from anyone who is still in the parking lot at 1:00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE that absentee ballots or proxy votes will not be accepted. If you have a chronic health condition that prevents you from voting in-person, you may apply for an electronic ballot. All electronic ballot requests must be made by Thursday, May 28th at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. You must also provide a photo or scan of your photo ID by Friday, May 29th, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. Your ballot will be sent out electronically on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. and MUST BE RETURNED by 1:00 p.m.
If you have any questions about the ballot process, or need help with transportation to and from the Waterford, please let us know IMMEDIATELY and we will see what we can do to help you out!
