Mark Ellmore Calls On Gov. Northam To Start Reopening Virginia
Sends Northam letter providing commonsense solutions to help Virginia gradually restart its economy while also curbing the spread of COVID-19
Alexandria, VA – Mark Ellmore, a Republican candidate for Congress from Virginia’s Eighth District, called on Governor Ralph Northam Thursday to immediately start reopening the Commonwealth of Virginia and allow “non-essential” businesses to reopen, so long as they agree to follow smart social distancing guidelines that will help Americans continue to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Ellmore made his request to Northam through a letter sent from his Congressional campaign to the Governor’s Richmond office. The full text of the letter can be found on the campaign’s website, MarkEllmore.com.
In the letter, Ellmore wrote:
“While I strongly believe that the safety of all Virginians should come first during these difficult times, it is imperative that we also consider the health of our state’s economy and workforce in the decision-making process. Our democracy itself is in crisis, and reopening our society can be done while still protecting the vulnerable. …
“Governor, we can fight COVID-19 while also saving our economy. It is time we start implementing … basic steps that’ll allow Virginians to both keep the economy running and adhere to safe social distancing practices.”
Ellmore also provided suggestions of guidelines that can be used by businesses and restaurants looking to reopen, which would require them to follow strict occupancy restrictions, spacing requirements, and PPE usage, among other things.
